DeMatha Recruiting Update: Jaire George

SUN_0077-2014Despite being one of the strongest high school athletic programs in the country, DeMatha is about much more than just sports. Wednesday we highlight senior Jaire George, a starting outside linebacker making his name both on the field and in the classroom.

IMG_4484“Jaire is one of many Stags who are representing what it means to be a true student-athlete,” DeMatha head coach Elijah Brooks said.  “He is a member of the National Honor Society and carries a 3.9 GPA. Jaire is a senior leader on the field at outside linebacker and also brings a toughness to the backfield as a running back.”

Coach Brooks went on to explain that George’s tackling ability, as well as his accomplishments in the classroom, have garnered attention from coaches at Stanford, Virginia, Princeton, Harvard, William & Mary and other elite academic institutions.

If George looks recognizable, it’s no surprise. His father Eddie George won the Heisman Trophy at Ohio State before embarking on a nine-year NFL career. Now, Eddie George runs George Enterprises, a company bringing healthy lifestyles to Americans. After his playing career ended, Eddie George went back to school to get his MBA from Northwestern University. With a pedigree like that, both on and off the field, it’s easy to understand all of the attention for Jaire in his senior season.

Week 11 Players of the Week

DeMatha put together a strong team effort to beat Carroll 27-6 and finish an undefeated run through the WCAC regular season. The team knows it will need to be even stronger when it faces Good Counsel in the first round of the playoffs.

Though the team is focused on the Falcons and a WCAC title, Stags Head Coach Elijah Brooks wanted to highlight the player of three players from the Carroll win.

dematha_HS_0044Offensive Player of the Week: Running back No. 20 Anthony McFarland – 18 carries, 204 yards, 3 TDs

Making his first start as a freshman, Anthony had a phenomenal day. As he continues to get better, it’s clear the sky is the limit for him.

dematha_HS_0123Defensive Player of the Week: Defensive tackle No. 56 Julius Combes – 5 tackles, 2 TFL

Julius’ role and responsibility is to anchor his area and free up our linebackers to make plays. He might not light up the stat sheet, but he has been doing his job the last couple weeks.

dematha_HS_0077Special Teams Player of the Week: No. 32 Jaire George

Jaire never left field against Carroll! He started at fullback and played every snap for special teams. Says a lot about his versatility and the trust we have in him as a player.
