Week 4 Recaps: DeMatha Rolls Over Eastern Christian 47-26

StagsDeMatha hit the road again last Friday to take on one of the better teams in the state of Maryland. The result? A romp for the Stags! DeMatha jumped on top of Eastern Christian Academy early, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and didn’t let up until the final whistle, winning 47-26.

A look at some stats from the game:

  • QB Beau English completed 8 of 14 passes for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • RB Gavin Lavat rushed for an astounding 278 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • RB Anthony McFarland ran for more than 100 yards and 1 touchdown
  • WR Tino Ellis brought in more than 100 yards receiving and 1 touchdown

Week 2 Update: DeMatha 21, St. Mary’s Ryken 12

Everyone knew that DeMatha faced a stiff challenge traveling to take on the St. Mary’s Ryken Knights, and the Stags showed up for the challenge. Behind great running from Anthony McFarland and a strong defensive effort, DeMatha won its first WCAC game 21-12 over Ryken.

Players To Watch: DeMatha vs St. Mary’s Ryken

StagsDeMatha heads to Leonardtown tonight to face the St. Mary’s Ryken Knights, and head coach Elijah Brooks knows his Stags need to be ready to play if they want to get their first win of the season. Brooks broke down the strategy for us here, and Ryken will also be broadcastings their audio call of tonight’s game live. Click here to access that stream.

If you plan on traveling with the Stags to Southern Maryland, you better have tickets. Ryken has announced the game is SOLD OUT! But before the game starts, there are three players we are watching specifically tonight for the Stags. Let’s break it down:

Screen shot 2014-09-05 at 12.28.44 PM FS Tyler Green – At 6’3″ and 195 lbs. Green is a big athlete roaming the DeMatha secondary with a nose for the football and generating big plays. Already committed to The Ohio State University, watch for Green’s ballhawking skills against Ryken.

Meet A Future Stag: Austin Fontaine

Good news keeps coming in for DeMatha, this time in the fashion of 6’2″, 260 lbs. offensive and defensive lineman Austin Fontaine. Fontaine is an honor roll student at Theodore Davis Middle School in Waldorf and a star for the Westlake Bulldogs football team.

DeMatha seized the Washington Area Catholic Conference football championship this season thanks to a dominant run game, offensive playmakers on the edges, and a stout defense.

DeMatha Enters MaxPreps National Top 25

DeMatha locked up the title of best team in the D.C. area with its convincing 31-10 win over St. Johns in the WCAC Championship. Now MaxPreps has placed DeMatha into the conversation with the best teams in the country.
