Sunday marks the beginning of the 2014 WCAC Playoffs, and if the Stags are going to defend their 2013 title, they must face a tough Gonzaga squad. DeMatha head coach Elijah Brooks provides a preview of Sunday’s action:
This Sunday we face a very good Gonzaga team again but this time the stakes are much higher. Gonzaga has a very good quarterback who is the leader of a very explosive offense. Their two running backs compliment each other well and have dynamic wide receivers who can score from anywhere on the field. We have to get off the field defensively or their offensive line will wear you down. Offensively we have to limit turnovers and control the line of scrimmage. Bottom line is everyone in our locker room knows what time it is, win or go home. We are working hard to make sure our season is extended one more week. Go Stags!
The Stags seem ready for the challenge.
“Our mindset is to get this done and win another championship for those guys who came before us and set up DeMatha as a program,” DeMatha senior defensive back Tyler Green told The Washington Post. “The last Gonzaga game showed us we needed to buckle down and see who’s ready for war, and we believe we’re ready.”
