Brooks’ Break Down: DeMatha’s 21-12 Win Over St. Mary’s Ryken

McFarlandDeMatha scored their first win of the season, beating St. Mary’s Ryken 21-12 on the road. The game was hard fought, but the Stags now sit with a 1-0 WCAC record and 1-1 on the season.

We talked with Stags head coach Elijah Brooks on how his team gutted out their first win:

It wasn’t pretty but it we made enough plays to come away with a win and we have to be happy about that. Our defense stepped up big and held Ryken to 12 points. We forced two key turnovers, including a huge Pick-6 by Shane Simmons. Our offensive line paved the way for a breakout performance from Anthony McFarland, who rushed for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Now we have to get back to work to prepare to face Philly power LaSalle College.

Remember you can watch Friday’s game even if you don’t travel to Philadelphia. The DeMatha-LaSalle matchup will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet in the D.C. area.
