DeMatha Finishes Preseason, Prepares for Archbishop Wood (PA)

DMWFWith students heading back to school and the regular season on the horizon, summer is officially over. Now marks the beginning of the 2014 WCAC season, and the Stags look to defend their title after a dominant run in 2013. DeMatha closed out the preseason with a scrimmage against Westfield High School of Virgina last weekend and we caught up with Coach Elijah Brooks following the game.

We finished the preseason on a high note with our annual scrimmage vs. Westfield. Our line play was solid on both sides of the ball. Offensive standouts included running back Lorenzo Harrison, running back Anthony McFarland and wide receiver and team captain Tino Ellis. Defensively we definitely took steps in the right direction. Tackling was much improved and we saw big plays made by defensive tackle Julius Combes and linebacker Jaylen Brown.
We are looking forward to a great week of practice in preparation for our opener against Pennsylvania state power Archbishop Wood. They are a veteran team that is very physical and well coached. On the road we have to limit our mistakes or a team like Wood will capitalize every time. Without a doubt we have our work cut out for us but we will be up for the challenge! Go Stags!
