It’s been a long summer, but don’t worry, DeMatha Stags football is back! The defending WCAC champions have been practicing in the August heat and are ready to chase another title in the best athletic conference in the country.
The boys are ready for action, and things get going Saturday with a scrimmage against Wilson High School at 6 p.m. Let’s check in with Head Coach Elijah Brooks for an update on the Stags:
We had a very productive off-season. Our summer training program was led by Strength Coaches Mark McCain and Brian Bell. The players focused of strength, speed & skills development 4 days per week.
DeMatha Football defended it’s PG County Passing Tournament Championship by defeating many of the top teams in the area. We also traveled to West Virginia University where we had a good showing and finished third out of 32 teams.
It’s always great to have DeMatha alumni come by and speak words of encouragement to our players. After hosting the Rodney McLeod (’08/St. Louis Rams) football camp, he addressed our players on what it takes to be successful. Cyrus Kouandijo (’09/Buffalo Bills) got drafted in the spring and also took the time to visit with us when he returned home.
Camp is going well. The kids are working hard and look forward to our next scrimmage Saturday vs. Wilson (DC) at 6 p.m.
