In what was billed as the best high school football game in the D.C. area this season, DeMatha took on a tough Gonzaga squad in a matchup that didn’t disappoint.
Gonzaga got off to a strong start in the game, taking an early 14-0 lead. But eventually the Stags found their offensive rhythm and showed again they have the deepest and best running attack in the area.
The win locks up the top playoff spot for the Stags, who get to rest now with a bye week. By beating Gonzaga, DeMatha now has a 8-1 record, including an unblemished 5-0 in the loaded Washington Catholic Area Conference.
The Washington Post covered the DeMatha win, focusing on the brilliant play of backup quarterback Jamal Robinson. Check it out here.
DC Sports Fan covered the game as well, taking some great pictures, check it out here, including the above shot of senior running back Taiwan Deal’s game winning TD run. Deal will head to Wisconsin next fall to play for the Badgers; we will miss him at DeMatha but can’t wait to see what he accomplishes on the next level.
Stags Head Coach Elijah Brooks was nice enough to let Inside DeMatha Football document the week of practice going into the Gonzaga game, as well as exclusive footage throughout the game. Look for that highlight package later this week along with Players of the Week and perhaps a few more surprise posts.
